Social media isn’t the end-all-be-all, but it offers marketers unparalleled opportunity to participate in relevant ways. It also provides a launchpad for other marketing tactics. Social media is not an island. It’s a high-power engine on the larger marketing ship.

5 Ways to Use Social Data to Grow Your Business

dekkert:

This article is very interesting! it takes a look at how you can use data assembled from social media, to grow your business by putting that data to good use. It splits the constant stream of data that comes from social media in 5 groups:

  1. Listening data
  2. Benchmarking data
  3. Strategic Forecast data
  4. Real-Time Track data
  5. Reflection & Insight

The first group is compiled of data that’s about the quality of your product, your communication efforts or your marketing campaign and the feedback people are placing online. This data will allow you to see how your products are received by your customers and it will allow you to see if it’s needed to alter the product, change a campaign or improve on your communication.

Benchmarking data is all about comparing your efforts to those of your competitors. With social media, not only can you gather data on things people are saying about your own product, but because social media is so accessible and open to everyone, you can easily gather information on your competitors’ products as well and see how your product compares to theirs.

Companies like RedLeaf offer you information (strategic forecast data) on how your target group is active online, which will allow you target your customers even better, by using selected sorts of social media and more targeted campaigns than before.

Real-time tracking data is compiled by companies like HootSuite and allows a company to take a careful look at how their ad-campaign is doing on various social media platforms. This way companies can easily see if a campaign is effective or not, by, for example, looking how many click-throughs they receive.

Last but not least is the newfound ability for more and better reflection & insight afterwards. Companies will no longer wonder why an ad-campaign didn’t work as well as they had hoped, because they can now easily track the campaign in real-time online, always being able to see how effective it is.

These 5 ways are a great start for any company really, to start putting the abilities of social media to their advantage!
